Fictional Polish Book Cover

BOOK COVER DESIGN

A local author reached out to me needing a book cover design for his upcoming collection of short stories. He explained that the book was a retelling of stories from his life with a little “fictional polish” added to them to make them more interesting, thus, his title was born. We talked about the types of stories he planned to tell and what inspired him. He wanted the cover to feature a woman and her dog, the rest was up to me to figure out.

I initially wanted to go an abstract route, focusing more on the act of polishing as a concept, taking something messy and cleaning it up. The author wanted to go a different route that focused more on the woman and her dog. We eventually landed on the idea of a vintage shoe polish tin design.
